About the flag

The national flag of the Greater Zartanian Empire was designed in 300AP (1364 Zartanian Calendar) when the Kingdom of Eastern Zartania joined with the Republic of Western Zartania after the latter's liberation from the Cooperative Commonwealth of the Union of Northern Gronk. The predominant color of the flag is white, symbolizing the hope for peace and the joy of reunification of the two halves of Zartania. Stripes of black and red, the traditional national colors of Eastern Zartania, adorn the hoist, demonstrating the Kingdom's supremecy in the union.  The centerpiece of the flag is the civil arms of the Empire. The arms are quartered, featuring the civil arms of Eastern Zartania (per bend sinister Sable and Gules, a Crown Or surmounted by a Sword Proper) in the 1st and 4th quarters, and the civil arms of Western Zartania (quarterly Or and Azure, a Cross countercharged) in the 2nd and 3rd. The arms are topped by the Eastern Zartanian Royal Crown, demonstrating again that the King of Eastern Zartania is also the head of state of the Empire. Finally, the arms are surrounded by black olive branches, symbolizing both the hope for peace in the future and the dark past of the separated Zartanias.

Previous flags

The original flag of the Greater Zartanian Empire was designed in 300AP when the union occurred. At that time, the civil arms of the Republic of Western Zartania featured the traditional rose (per bend Azure and Or, a rose countercharged). In 301AP, the Western Zartanian National Assembly elected to change the Republic's arms to the countercharged cross that exists now. Once the change was approved, the flag of the Empire was modified to reflect the change.
